Sunny's Foot Spa: A Quick Review of a Last Minute Massage

Recommend:

The foot detoxification and a foot massage. If I lived in the area, I’d join their membership program for regularly scheduled foot massages.

After attending a wedding in Canton, Ohio, I unexpectedly had a few free hours and decided to get a massage.  Without scheduling in advance, I was unable to get an appointment at small businesses with setups similar to fibre: A Homespun Spa. After many internet searches and phone calls, I found an opening at Sunny’s Foot Spa.  I scheduled a full body and a foot massage; a 90-minute session.

I arrived to a very friendly welcome from the receptionist who had remembered my call to schedule the session. Almost immediately, a therapist greeted me and led me past several large chairs set up for the foot spa to a separate massage room.

Faciliities

In the main area of the spa, several large, upholstered chairs are available when getting foot-related services. The chairs are very comfortable and would easily accommodate most people.

I like to include information about the facilities (e.g., dry sauna, steam room) and the changing room area (e.g., lockers, showers).  On this visit, I saw the massage room and the large area used for the foot-focused massage. I didn’t see any other facilities.

The space I did use was very clean. I had plenty of room for getting changed, hanging my clothes/belongings and it had a relaxing ambiance.

Full Body Massage

A massage room at Sunny’s Foot Spa.

She stepped out of the room while I undressed and got on the unheated table.  When she re-entered, she adjusted the draping, then started a series of deep and fast compressions on my back.  I stopped the therapist and asked for less pressure and a slower pace. The therapist told me she didn’t speak English. Using hand motions, I asked for a slower, gentler pace.

The therapist continued at the same pace with less pressure. Similar strokes were repeated on my legs and feet.

The Swedish massage followed with firm, quick strokes.  It felt more frenetic than relaxing and areas of muscle tension were not fully addressed.  After the hour on the table, I put on my clothes and returned to the main section of the spa and sat in one of the large chairs.

The therapist placed rolled towels between my back and the chair before starting the foot massage. I found the foot massage to be more relaxing than the full body massage. The strokes felt more intentional and delivered at a calming pace.

If I lived in the area, I’d join their membership program and get weekly foot massages.

Changes for fibre

The foot massage may be added on the list of services as a stand-alone session for people who want the benefit of a full body massage in 40 minutes or less. A foot massage relaxes the body by applying Swedish massage techniques to the feet, ankles and calf muscles.

At fibre, integrated reflexology sessions are offered instead of foot massages. The integrated reflexology session addresses specific parts of the body or the endocrine system by applying varying pressures to specific points on the feet.
